Diets and Homemade Donuts... Do NOT Go Together

So as some people know, I've been on a diet for two weeks now.  And I am doing very well, that is until my husband decided he was going to make homemade donuts.  Yes, my husband is off work today and for breakfast he made homemade donuts.  These are in no way good for my diet, but they were SO good going down.  And my wonderful husband didn't seem to mind the camera capturing his every move.

Where Are You Going to College? My Daughter's Answer

While watching Gossip Girl on Netflix, my daughter begins to tell me where she wants to go to college.  On Gossip Girl they are applying to Yale.  Yes, I know I'm only in Season two so I am behind.  My daughter says, "I'm going to Harvard or maybe Stanford."  To my amazement I had no idea she knew anything about Stanford, I mean she's only ten.  I just said "ok," and continued to watch the show.  She then replies, "I really want to go to Harvard, but I guess Stanford would be ok."  I had to ask, "Why Stanford?"  I get a shocking answer that I burst out laughing at, "Well, I'm going to a good school like Harvard, but I'm at least going to a school that ends in "erd"."  Ha ha ha ha.. yes, we are from and live in Alabama, I guess that's how we say Harvard and Stanford.  Oh Ellyssa, how you light up my life.  I love being your Mom.

Thankful Thursday - The Blogging Community Especially Autism Blogs

It's that time of week when I try to narrow down everything that I'm thankful for to just one thing to talk about.  I have SO much in my life to be thankful for, but Thursdays are when I spotlight only one thing.  And this week without a doubt it's the blogging community.  That being said, I have a particular love for the autism blogging community.  Whether it's the hysterical commentary from Riding the Crazy Train or the heart touching insight from Lost and Tired and many other blogs, they keep me going.

I read a lot of blogs and love each and everyone, or else I wouldn't read them, and I have 100+ followers of my own, but never did I think I would have a community of friends.  I had a friend that had been writing her blog for about a year and I had read it and kept up with it and thought that's so neat.  Then I got a surprise, I was finally pregnant after five years of trying and finally being told it wasn't going to happen.  What better way to tell people than a blog, right?

XBox/Paypal Drama

On April 27th, while laying in bed I checked our bank account with my little app like I do every night. Much to my surprise I see 3 charges for $19.99 and one charge for $9.99 all from PayPal. I log into my PayPal to see that I haven't bought anything, so I turn to my husband and he of course says he never buys anything through Paypal. I made him log into his account anyway and there were indeed 4 charges through his PayPal originating from Microsoft. We own an Xbox, one that only gets turned on for watching Netflix and an occasional game or two.  So, I guess you could understand why I was confused.

My Wishlist

"Who's that?" A Parenting Fail

Most of my "mommy life" I have been pretty proud, but last night, well...  After supper I was flipping through the channels and got to TNT where I found The Dark Knight.  It was already an hour into, but my husband and I had seen it before.  We sat down to watch it and thinking our ten year old daughter had surely seen it as much we watch those kinds of movies and love them.  Well, she got comfy in the recliner during a commercial and was acting excited to be watching "Batman" with us.  When the commercial ended and the movie came back, my daughter said, "who's that?"

A Career Student...

Can being a "student" be a career?  Can you make a lifetime out of being a student?  Some would say no, but others would say yes.  I'm in between.  I have gone to school off and on for about thirteen years, however, I've only actually gone to school for roughly five straight years.  I have taken "breaks" in my schooling for various different reasons.  Some, were good reason and other's I thought were good reasons at the time, but looking back, they really weren't.

Meat Freak Out

While clearing our DVR, my daughter and I were watching last weeks episodes of Master Chef and Hell's Kitchen.  Both happened to be about fish and I commented, "I don't eat fish so I wouldn't know how to cook it."  Later in the evening, while watching a different show, this conversation happened:

"Momma, have you ever eaten fish?"

"No, wait yes, but only from Captain D's."  We no longer have a Long John Silver's and the river fish tastes fishy.

"That's not fish!"

"Yes, it is."

"So, they go out and catch it?"  In a very none believable tone.

"Yes, someone does, then batter it and fry it."

"NO!  You eat a poor fish?!"

Oh My! A Liebster Blog Award for Me...

One of the many things I love about blogging is how supportive mom bloggers can be of one another. We comment on one another’s blogs, we share posts we enjoy, and we get to know (at least virtually) the other mommies who are sitting behind their computers during naptime, just like we are.

One example of this abundant bloggy love is the Liebster award which is not exactly an award in the big fancy way, but is more just a little acknowledgement from one blogger to another (11 others to be exact) to say, “Your blog is great”. It is specifically for blogs who have 200 followers or less, so it’s an awesome way to give a shout-out to up and coming bloggers.

Thankful Thursday - My Husband

Thankful Thursday is where I stop and tell how thankful I am for one thing this week. I am thankful for so much in my life, but each week I will recognize one thing that just really stood out that week. I will also be linking up to the wonderful inspiration of my Thankful Thursday post.

This week, I want to recognize my husband.  Why?  Because he's great!  He's just an all around great guy.  I'm not a sugar-coater and I'm not going to sit and tell you that my husband is perfect, because honestly, the only perfect people are not walking on this Earth.  But he is wonderful.

Love/Hate #4

Welcome once again to all Noels Beautiful Life readers. It's that time of week again, time for Love it/Hate it, where I tell you something I love and then something I hate about the same thing. So here goes.

I LOVE the rain.  Let me clarify, I love it when the Earth is thirsty or at night to sleep better.
I HATE when it pours and I have to go somewhere.  Or worse, when I leave the house not knowing it's going to pour in flip-flops.  Why do I hate that so much?  Nothing worse than falling on your knee outside of Wal-Mart in the pouring rain when your husband works there, so everybody knows you.

My Ten Favorite Summer Activites

Welcome to all the Eloping Stethoscope Readers.  It's that time of week again when I share my ten favorites.  This week the topic is my ten favorite summer activities.

1. Having my daughter home
No doubt, it has to be my favorite of all, I absolutely LOVE having her home for the summer.  I love the relationship we have together and the talks we have and the hugs and cuddles while watching TV.  I also love that she gets to spend SO much time with my parents.  Although I miss her when she spends the night with them, they absolutely love it and they only live 3.5 miles away.

Thankful Thursday - My Dad

Thankful Thursday is where I stop and tell how thankful I am for one thing this week.  I am thankful for so much in my life, but each week I will recognize one thing that just really stood out that week.  I will also be linking up to the wonderful inspiration of my Thankful Thursday post.

This week is totally about my dad.  I got to spend his 62nd birthday with him this year, when for years we thought he would never make it to.  His brother passed away when he was 50 and his sister was 60 when she passed away, only 5 days short of turning 61.  Over the years my dad has been through so many things that I sit and wonder HOW he is here.  But he is and I know one day I will have to say good-bye, here's praying 2012 isn't that year.

Happy July 4th - A Day Late

I commend those bloggers that I follow that got their Happy 4th posted yesterday, on the 4th, but I'm just not that organized and together in my life.  This here are just hectic and that's just how we live.  Wednesday being July 4th meant no speech therapy for Alex, so that really threw his schedule off and that means a day of playing, "it's ok AJ, what else would you like to do?"  He actually woke up at 6:30 am, another difference that would set our day in motion, but we just roll with the punches around here.

Pawpaw Turns 62!

That's right, after all the struggles not knowing if my dad would live or make it through Christmas two years ago and through the fourteen surgeries, stroke on the table, and staph infection six years ago.  He has made it, I'm not going to say he's the healthiest person ever, but he's my dad and he's now 62.  I'm SO incredibly proud and blessed that I got to celebrate today with him.
