Bad Dreams and Your Parents' Floor

I know growing up we all had bad dreams at some point or another and as an adult, I have them more than I would like to admit.  I had a lot of them when I began to take Melatonin to help me sleep, but I switched to something else and have been fine lately.  It's funny how our children can do stuff and it brings back memories of things we did when we were younger, but we totally forgot.  I had a reminder this morning.

In the middle of the night at some point, I woke up turning over to see that my tv was on the Disney Channel and I clearly remember falling asleep to the Golden Girls.  But I thought maybe someone rolled over on the remote and changed it, so I went back to sleep.  I woke up around 5 am to go to the bathroom and that's when I discovered my ten year old asleep in my floor at the foot of my bed.

We have Alex's baby bed mattress at the foot of our bed so our boxer, Tiger, can sleep on it because my hubby doesn't want him in the bed.  She had gotten her covers and pillow pet and was asleep on this little baby mattress.  My first thought was I hoped her daddy didn't step on her when he got up to go to work.  Again, I went back to sleep.
how I found her
When we all got up around 9 am, I asked her about sleeping in my floor and her response was, "I had a bad dream and couldn't go back to sleep, so I got the remote and went and slept in your floor."  Immediately I was flooded with memories of myself when I was growing up and grabbing my blankets and pillows in the middle of the night and making a pallet in my parents' floor at the foot of their water bed.  There were countless times that I'm sure one of my parents probably tripped over me.  These are memories that I'm so happy to have back, thanks to my daughter.  Of course I don't want anyone having bad dreams, but knowing the foot of my bed gives my children the safety and comfort that the foot of my parents' bed gave me, warms my heart.

  1. That is really cute - my kids bring back memories from my childhood as well. Thanks for posting.

  2. That is really sweet isn't it? No wonder it brought back memories from your own childhood.

  3. Ah, that's a lovely post. Thank you for linking up to Flashback Friday.

Comments help me get to know you better, thanks for leaving your thoughtful thoughts. Have a blessed day! xoxo
